Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) is planning to set up seven waste-to-energy plants in the State. The first of the waste-to-energy plant will come up in Njeliyanparama in Kozhikode district in Kerala. The land required is already available and the corp has 12.67-acre plot leased out from Kozhikode Corporation . The project cost is estimated at ₹ 2,500 million. The project will be implemented through a consortium led by Bengaluru-based Zonta Infratech Private Limited. The consortium will carry out construction and execution of the project.
The project is likely to go operational by 2021 and it will have a capacity to process 300 tonnes of solid waste on a daily basis and convert it into electricity. The beneficiaries are expected to pay Rs 3,500 per tonne as tipping fees to the company for collection and processing of the waste.
